Designed
with an attractive top-lit entrance and
appealing curved corridors, this inviting
school provides such facilities as a dining
area, library, information technologies,
art and food technology classrooms, plus
external classrooms and covered areas.
"We've
had a fabulous year," smiled Terri
Menham. "We now have over 350 pupils
in the school. That's been great, but challenging."
With a pupil population arriving from around
69 different schools, Terri knows it's vital
Red Oaks develops its own identity: "We're
doing that by involving children and giving
them a part to play in the school's success.
For example, children are helping improve
the playground, getting involved in our
development plans, and presenting our calculations
policy to parents during a maths week in
July."
Since launch, Red Oaks is flourishing, as
evidenced at www.redoaks.org: a veritable
online feast of school news, project pictures,
and videos of events and trips. So, what
of the school's plans for the near future?
"We've recruited twelve new members
of staff, including five teachers, and in
September, we're launching a special resource
provision for hearing impaired children,"
said Terri. "On 17 July, we're also
holding a big open day event for pupils
and parents. We couldn't have got off to
a better start. I've always believed that
engaging children is about making learning
fun – and I think we're on to a winner." |
